Boil-water advisories
What a boil-water advisory means.
We issue a boil-water advisory when there is a chance that drinking water could be unsafe. Pennsylvania DEP requires the most urgent advisories to reach customers within 24 hours, so we post them on this site, on our Facebook page, and via direct outreach where possible.
- 01
Boil for one minute
Bring water to a rolling boil for at least one full minute before drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, or making ice.
- 02
Use bottled water if you can
If you have sealed bottled water on hand, that is the easiest option for infants, the elderly, and anyone with a weakened immune system.
- 03
Wait for the all-clear
Do not stop boiling until we post that the advisory has been lifted. We will say so on this site and through the same channels we used to issue the notice.
